New Zealand - Wanaka to Akaroa

Wanaka 22 to 27 Dec 2004

Our Christmas town and scene of our sky dives not a bad way to spend the festive season> sun and shorts, lots of nice wine and Home Alone one & two on the TV... excellent.
A nice (but quiet) town by a lake - we spent 5 days there and stayed in a hostel for most of it. Christmas day was really sunny - so shorts were put on and I made small children cry with the whiteness of my legs - great day filled with presents, bottles of bubbly and a nice dinner at a local restaurant to finish it all off.
<<< Christmas Card sent taken earlier in the trip.

Fairlie 27 Dec 2004 Third in the league of quiet towns. Akaroa 30 Dec 2004 to 2 Jan 2005
New years in a harbour side French Kiwi town scenic camp site in the hills.
From there we returned to Christchurch (after stopping off at number 4 in the quiet towns awards - Fairlie - everything closed at 6pm - what??!!). Christchurch has become one of my favourite places - a really relaxed nice city.

So - to New Year's eve- we ended up in a place called Akaroa - a French harbour town 80 kms from Christchurch - which Henry nearly failed to get to - big hills! We decided to go to Akaroa because Martina overheard some guy in the pub saying to his mate it was really nice ...and you have to listen to that kind of advice don't you?!! The town was very small (with two pubs were everyone looked related - by birth or by marriage...or both.)

The two bars, to quote Larry Miller, were the kind of places "even the devil would say, um, no - I'm heading away, I've got to be in hell by nine, I've got brunch with Hitler - I can't miss that!" - i.e - they were quality!). We ended up in a French restaurant on a shared table and had a really good funny night - didn't stop me yawning at the old man next to me though - slightly embarrassing. First time I'd danced to Old Langs being played on a saxophone.>>>We left there and Henry failed a number of times on the road out  - which means we're now heading up to the Bay of Islands tomorrow
