S. America - The Inca Trail

Home World Tour Index South America Index

Inca Trail - One of the main reasons we were in South America - it didn't  disappoint. The group was fairly sound mix of Americans, South Africans, Dutch, Swedes, English and one Irish! At the start of the route I made a purchase that was to save my life on a number of occasions .... a walking stick for 75 cents. You may laugh but I would have had many injuries now if it wasn't for this fine item.

The first day was grand, second day was far too much like hard work, third day was amazing (especially as the guide decided to take us on an alternate route which over looked all the mountains and went through jungle etc).

The foruth day we were up at 4am to walk up to Macchu Picchu lost city of the Incas - it was quite simply bloody amazing. Weather for whole trip was great and clear.

Highlight being woken each morning with coca tea, the fact the porters were the fittest men in the world (running up mountains with massive gas canisters etc on their back) & the general craic of rocking the Inca trail for 4 days.

....A winner !
