From Hanoi we flew to Bangkok &
then to Ubon for the wedding of my good friend Matthew Neville. At the
hotel (a massive step up in accommodation - air con, a pool, a bath?!!)
we met 5 more friends from England and a great weekend was had. I won't
spend too long on the details - but a wedding deserves respect!
It started at
7am with photos and then monks chanting. Then at 8am there was a feast
where people were expected to drink whiskey and beer! We only had 5
hours sleep the night before and this seemed quite reckless....still,
it is the custom....Then we danced and shouted lots in the street
and
then returned to the house for the rings and the tying of the
hands....It was lovely.
The bride and groom
looked delighted (and one of the best men looked very unwell!) and then
after a strange custom involving the grooms parents and a bed - they were
married and there were smiles all around. |
